Fluorescent protein dynamics (e.g. translocation)

Imaging of fluorescent proteins using confocal microscopy can uniquely provide detailed cellular structure and function through the use of fluorescent proteins as tracers of intercellular protein trafficking and the localisation and dynamics of proteins and organelles.

The selection of appropriate objectives, emission filters and detector are critical to these confocal microscopy studies.

The Olympus BX63 is a fully motorised upright microscope which can be used in Fluorescence, Differential Interference Contrast (DIC), Phase Contrast, Simple Polarised Light, Brightfield and Darkfield observation modes.

The BX63 is unusually focused by driving the motorised nosepiece in the z-direction. This means that the microscope stage remains fixed and affords greater stability.

The BX63 stage can be driven using its ultrasonic Piezo motor technology, which provide silent, smooth and precise operation, or it can be positioned manually; allowing for fast gross sample alignment. In motorised or manual operation the BX63's high accuracy encoders provide continuous read-out of the X and Y position of the stage.

The Aurox Visionary software has been specially developed for the acquisition of live cell imaging data using the Aurox Clarity LFC unit as part of a laser free confocal microscopy system.

Designed with simplicity and ease of use at its core, the software provides a single graphical user interface, which relates device and experimental settings directly to the connected instrument hardware.

The Visionary software provides for the optimisation and control of the instrument set-up and calibration followed by the set-up and image acquisition control of the confocal microscopy experiment.

The Cool LED pE-4000 is a broad spectrum (365-770 nm) illumination system for fluorescence microscopy with 16 selectable LED wavelengths that can be matched to the filters and fluorophores of almost any microscope.
